With GH3, how do you take the full resolution 16×9 still photos while in the middle of recording a video clip?

Hello Will

I have watched and enjoyed some of your videos since becoming a GH3 owner in December, to mainly use for DSLR type footage in my video business, along with my full shoulder camcorder a Sony PMW320.  I’m also interested in starting to offer “Hybrid” coverage as well with high quality stills from the same events that would lend themselves to this possibility.  I have both of the wonderful constant F2/8 Panasonic zoom lenses and now also the Panny/Leica 25mm F1/4 prime.

Both the manual and the CD for advanced instructions say the same thing basically.  If I am in Video mode with the dial on top and in Manual on my picture settings, if I start the recording with Red button and then depress the shutter release during the clip I get the 2MP still photo and no interruption on the clip.

But according to them, if I am in the “manual” still photo mode and start a video clip with the Red record/stop button, I should be able to record up to 8 or so full resolution 16×9 still shots by depressing the shutter release.  But with the interruption in the video picture while those capture.  But it does the same thing…. no interruption and I am only getting the small 2MB still photo files.

Please, when you have a chance, what am I missing or not doing correctly to get the full 12MP 16×9 stills?

Thanks so much

Ron
