Hi guys I wanted to share my point of view on a subject a few of my fellow Hybrid Heroes have been discussing recently. That is horizontal vs. vertical photography. It seems that a lot of the industry is moving towards horizontal photography, especially now that we are shooting more video. I think our brains are starting to think and see in horizontal / landscape now, even more so as Hybrid Photographers. It makes a lot of sense!
Now this got me to thinking about the subject a little more and I can tell you that I’ve always been a big fan of the vertical portraits. In fact if you jump over to my site PhotoLynch.com you can see my portfolios are made up of many vertical shots. So I want to ask the question, “Why can’t we do vertical? Could we create vertical Hybrid eProducts?”
I know that there is a certain stigma on shooting video vertical, which mostly seems to stem from soccer moms forgetting to turn their phones sideways while recording. If the situation is right though and works for a vertical photo, why not shoot a vertical video? Also I generally hold my iPhone vertical in my hand. I also tend to browse on my iPad much the same way. So creating vertical eCards to be shared on smartphones and tablets makes a lot of sense to me.
In this VLOG I cover the basic steps to creating a Vertical Hybrid eProduct. I show you how I edit in Premiere Pro and create a nice themed frame in photoshop. Finally I take my final piece over to one of my favorite free applications, MPEG StreamClip and show you how to flip the final video to be seen the right way.
Adobe Lightroom 4 (Importing and Organizing)
Adobe Premiere Pro CS6 (Video Editing)
Adobe Photoshop CS6 (Creating a video frame)
MPEG Streamclip (Flipping the video to vertical. Also a great tool for converting video formats)
