Photo “flavor” for video is easier than you think. Talking Portraiture with Style.

Your portraiture has it’s own lighting style, signature color look, and overall flavor that’s all yours. You may have taken years to perfect it. Now that you are preparing for shooting “Talking Portraits” using video mode, your look needs to go with you!

In this vlog post I want to show you how to use some of the powerful and easy in-camera settings at your fingertips to make your photo and video look like you shot it… but without the painful process of video editing post-production. Why spend hours adding layers of styling flavor in a video editor when the smarter photographers setup their cameras to apply the filters while it’s being made?

Using a Lumix GH2 / GH3 and a Fuji XE1 camera to shoot some real life examples, take a look as I show video footage direct from the camera with zero post processing that ranges from smooth color negative film simulations…to creamy black and white…to the bold snappy colors you normally see in my vlog posts.

Since “Talking Portraiture” is a BIG part of profitable hybrid photography, why not let one of the ShootSmarter Hybrid Heroes show you examples on how you can get your camera to do most of the work for you. Shoot smarter instead of harder and enjoy importing video files with your style and flavor that need no “corrections” at all.

The skillful blend of photo+video+audio is clearly the future of photography, but how do we shoot and shape and share and sell these hybrid "eProducts"? Dunno, but with Will Crockett as the technical genius and unstoppable force behind this transition from shooting still photos into creating pictures with depth and dimension we will surely figure it out! : ) Will is an open, honest, bright guy that shares what he learns here on this website about hybrid, eProducts, mirrorless cameras, and all the wonderful software tools that allow us to make better, smarter images for share or the sell. For years, non-pro photographers and pros alike have seen Will's videos, gone to his fun live events, and learned how to be a smarter photographer. Another great myth buster video! I’ve been taught to shoot video flat and then add some color grading in post. I like the idea of shooting video with “flavor” right in camera. I agree, the less time spent in post the better – add a vignette, tweak the audio and it’s ready to export. Keep up the good work!

Great post as usual Will. I’m learning so much from your site, and this post was especially informative. I’m really excited to shoot a video and upload it as is for my clients to see. I love editing and geeking out with all of the sliders that we have at our disposal. But man, the more I shoot the more I just want to get it right in the camera and spend more time with my family and friends. I was at the WPPI Roadshow in Chicago and learned a lot from G’s video class. It was great chatting with you and the Panasonic reps. Very cool.
